Quality raw materials play crucial role in growing media producing

Peat Statistics and Information.
Peat is a renewable, natural, organic material of botanical origin and commercial significance. Peat Moss is abundant and environmentally sustainable, it grows many times faster than it is harvested (in Latvia).
Baltic Sphagnum peat moss
Sphagnum species—the source of the highest quality peat for horticultural purposes. Many characteristics make Sphagnum peat uniquely valuable.
Peat has widespread use as a plant-growth medium in a variety of horticultural and agricultural applications because its fibrous structure and porosity promote a combination of water-retention and drainage.
Commercial applications include propagation and potting soils,  lawn and garden soil amendments, and turf maintenance on golf courses.
Quality of our raw materials.

Sphagnum peat moss as a component of horticultural growing media is very important because of the unique main properties of the sphagnum cells to hold and release water.  However, there are many ways in which these important features can be significantly changed. Only experienced peat extractors and processors can provide peat that will be ideal for the most demanding grower.

Our common goal is – vigorous roots, healthy plants, and high-yielding crops.

Zelta Zeme provide full range of peat moss for horticulture needs

Size matters.

The root system of each plant has its own size and it changes as the plant develops. The soil that was suitable in the first months must be changed so that the growing roots have sufficient air access and water circulation. This means that the size and configuration of the peat particles must correspond to a certain root system. It is very important!

Special block and milled peat screener

The best growing media for demanding gardeners

More than 90 % of all growing media are based on black and white peat. Premium quality raised bog peat has proven to be the constituent with the most beneficial properties for use in growing media. It is the first choice in modern professional horticulture. The quality and performance of growing media are predetermined with the right raw material components. The harvesting method, harvesting technique, structure, moisture content and processing determine important physical factors such as air and water capacity or structural stability.

Provision of air exchange

The roots are breathing. One of the most common disorders of root development is related to growing media compaction. Substrate with a loose, light and stable structure is vital for horticulture

Careful processing of raw materials meets the highest horticulture standards

Milled peat moss

The beneficial physical properties of peat moss are due to the cell structure of the sphagnum moss which provides a large volume of pores filled with water and air.

Fine screened white peat. Base for propagation substrates.

Medium size white peat. Base for potting substrates.

Medium coarse structure white peat. Widely used for different potting substrates.

Coarse structure white peat. Widely used for different transplanting substrates.

Coarse structure white peat. Base for transplantation substrates.

Black peat fine strucure peat. Base for blocking substrates and different mixes

Black peat medium structure. Used for general potting together with white peat

Sod (block) peat

Sod peat fractions. Specially harvested and processed peat raw material which provides a reduced amount of fine particles and a very high structural stability to ensure drainage and air capacity in substrates. Besides milled peat this is the most important constituent in well-structured substrates for pot plants, shrubs, trees or soft fruits where high structural stability is required.

RHP quality mark for horticultural substrates

Our raw materials and substrates conform to the guidelines laid down by the Dutch RHP foundation:

  • all substrates are pure and clean
  • every delivery has the same quality
  • the delivered substrate complies with the agreed specifications
  • risks are minimised to prevent pests and diseases
